First and foremost, the workshop curriculum is different from ALL others. 1. Students write TWICE every session (pre-writing and an essay), and at least FOUR of these essays are assessed using principally, though not exclusively, the SAT College Board’s “holistic” criteria. 2. All students are given a one-on-one conference with me about how, specifically, to improve their writing. I use the students’ essays and we work out problems together. 3. Students will be given supplemental materials, quotes, and outlined ideas that should be useful in writing essays and studying literature for the rest of their lives.

In addition, this workshop is taught by a teacher who 1. is extensively published, reviewed, and awarded (see “Bio” page of this website), 2. has taught for 18 years from grade 6 to 12 and college, 3. has very successfully taught Higher Level International Baccalaureate AND Advanced Placement courses, 4. was, for years, the Director of High School Admissions at the prestigious International High School of San Francisco and who, in this capacity, had to assess and rank thousands of application and SSAT essays, 5. graduated from UC Berkeley with honors, and, finally, 6. loves a dynamic, student-centered class.
